Moving over to Blog Hacking

I’ve found that it takes too much time to try to maintain three sites when the topics are constantly overlapping so Im consolidating the bloguniverse.com subdomains, weblog and podcast, over to Blog Hacking.

The feed is already pointed over there and this site will be left up for archival purposes, but the action has moved. Hope to see you on the other side - Chris.

BlogU #11 - I’m back - Rocketboom kaput!

BlogU #11 - I’m back - Rocketboom kaput!

After a long hiatus, I am back and hopefully able to sustain the weekly podcasts. Today we discuss the big issue of the day - Amanda Congdon leaving Rocketboom.

As I mention in the podcast, this is important in that the most visible entrant in the commercial videoblog genre is in deep jeopardy because the main star wanted to pursue other options.

Blog U #10 - Censorship in blogging

Blog U #10 - Censorship in blogging

In what looks to be a growing trend, bloggers are being targeted by corporations (Forbes article), governments (Chinese blogger censored and Libyan imprisoned) and institutions (Schools mentioned last week).

Those of us in the United States tend to forget how valuable our First Amendment rights are until an event like this reminds us – at least Im grateful. Reporters Without Borders is a great site to learn more about blogging safely and they have a downloadable book for bloggers.

Also, please help those who are being harmed for their beliefs by visiting the Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch websites.

Marketing News: Fruitcast has launched a podcasting marketing program which should automatically ad their ads into your podcasts RSS feed. Signup is easy and inclusion in the directory is quick.

Google Adsense has launched a very good paying referral campaign, paying you $100 per referral after that person has made their first $100.

Blog U #9 - Attack of the bloggers!

Blog U #9 - Attack of the bloggers!

As you may have read, there is an ongoing attack on blogging by corporate media. Forbes’ Daniel Lyons has fabricated a piece on the dark side of blogging. It seems that they don’t like to lose control of the gatekeeping rings and will take potshots at the innocent.

Blogs started a few years ago as a simple way for people to keep online diaries. Suddenly they are the ultimate vehicle for brand-bashing, personal attacks, political extremism and smear campaigns”

Many people are discussing but what needs to happen is some examples of how bloggers have helped business should surface.

Blog Explosion – A new site which will help bloggers with marketing and production tips.

Banning blogging – Catholic schools and others are keeping kids from social networking activites online

BlogU - #6 Brainjam 2.1, new tools and music from Barbara Leoni

Podcast #6

Brainjam 2.1 took place this Friday with lots of people interested in learning from developers about new ways to connect with site users.

Tools which I felt stood out include:

Zazzle – An advertising specialties company pushing nice shirts, US postage stamps and prints/posters using your own design or choose from other designers.

Tagyu – Meaningful tag suggestions based on similar blog postings.

Measure Map from Adaptive Path – Will provide a graphically elegant representation of your website stats.

Nice job Chris, Kristie and Brian!

Special thanks to Barbara Leoni for letting me use her song “Haunted” (from the Human Needs album) in today’s show.
